The College is situated a little away from the din and bustle of Bapatla, a medium size town with a historic and hoary past, about 75 km. south of Vijayawada on Chennai - Vijayawada rail route.

Bapatla Engineering College (Autonomous) is one of the seven Educational Institutions founded and run by BAPATLA EDUCATION SOCIETY. The society was established in the year 1962 registered No:58/1962 under societies act XXI of 1860 with the objectives to found and run the Educational & Cultural Institutions.

This College is one of the few Colleges out of 570+ Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh, which is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The six B. Tech. Courses which are accredited twice are: Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, EIE & Mechanical. Apart from the above two more B. Tech courses viz., IT and Chemical Engineering are also accredited recently. Accreditation to all the eight courses is valid up to April 2010

The College has also applied for Autonomous Status and an Inspection Committee constituted by Acharya Nagarjuna University has inspected the college and recommended to AICTE for grant of Autonomous Status to this College.

The Institution of Engineers (India) accredited 8 B. Tech. programmes offered by the college based on the recommendations of the 6-member sub committee of senior Professors from IISc, Bangalore constituted by it. Further, the Ministry of Surface Transport recognized Mechanical Engineering Course of the College. In addition to this, the college is also registered with Dept. of Scientific & Industrial Research for the purpose of availing Customs duty exemption. The college is selected as a Network Institute for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the World Bank. An amount of Rs. 11.81 crores was granted to the college under this programme.


Courses Offered


The 4-year B. Tech. Courses is offered in nine branches, viz., CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, EIE, Ch. E., Biotech, ME and CE with total annual intake of 1020 students.Additional 10% intake is through lateral admissions into second year. Five M.Tech. Courses, viz (1) ‘CAD/CAM’ specialization in Mech. Engg. Dept. - intake of 18,(2) ‘COMMUNICATIONS & SIGNAL PROCESSING’ in ECE Dept. - intake of 18 (3) ‘COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGG.’ In CSE Dept.- intake of 30, (4)'POWER SYSTEM' in EEE Dept. - intake of 18, and (5)'STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING' in Civil Dept. - intake of 18 are also offered. Apart from the above courses in Engineering, the College offers six P.G. Courses, viz., M. Sc.(Maths), M.Sc.(electronics), M. Sc.(Computer Sciences), M. Sc.(Chemistry), M. Sc.(Physics) and MCA with a total intake of 294. From the academic year 2009-2010, the Polytechnic course is being offered in the second shift with an intake of 180.

With a view to derive the full benefit of morning hours, the class work is commenced at 7.30 A.M. Thereby the students are enabled to make the best use of the rich Library, English Communication Skills Lab, Computer Labs and playfield facilities in the afternoons.


Faculty


The teaching faculty consists of 20 Professors, Asst. Professors 31 and 130 Lecturers and is well supported by the 124 strong non-teaching staff. Out of 190 faculty members, 22 are with Ph.D. qualification and 83 are with M.Tech. qualification. Others have B. Tech./M. Phil./MCA/M. Sc., qualification.

II) a) An Unique Saga of Success in GATE

The College has established a tradition of sending year after year a large number of students to IITs, NITs and other reputed institutes for pursuing post-graduate studies based on their performance at the GATE examination conducted at the All India level. It is a matter of deep satisfaction that a good number of the alumni are acquitting themselves most creditably either in pursuing courses of higher study or in their chosen careers abroad / within India.

In GATE-2007 a total of 223 students qualified out of whom 10 students obtained All India Ranks below 100 in different branches.

In GATE-2006 , a total of 210 students got qualified out of whom 16 students obtained All India Rank below hundred, the highest All India Rank being FIFTH in EIE branch secured by Mr. P.Trinadh Harish Babu.

In GATE-2005, an impressive total of 230 students qualified themselves for admission into post-graduate courses in Engineering. Out of the above, 22 students with a percentile of more than 99 coveted themselves with rare glory. Mr. N.Raja Sekhar of E.E.E. branch stood college first with a percentile score of 99.98 and All India Rank of 4. Out of 230 students who came out successful, 20 students have secured most coveted All India Ranks of less than 100.

A percentile of 99.96 in Civil Engineering Branch – AN ALL INDIA FIRST RANK FOR 1997 – scored by Mr. Padavala Ravindra Babu of the College at GATE-97 marks a memorable acme of achievement and provide eloquent testimony to the efforts being put in by the staff and students.

III) Challenging Step-up Performance in GRE

A good number of students got creditable scores in GRE & TOEFL during the last five years. On an average, 50 students achieved creditable GRE & TOEFL scores every year during the last four years. Out of them on yearly basis about 10 students obtained a score of more than 1300 out of a maximum score of 1600.


Building & Equipment


The College is housed on a spacious and well-planned 30 acre site with buildings of a total plinth area of about 4.5 lakh sq. ft. and widely acknowledged to be a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functional utility. The cost of buildings is over Rs.25.0 crores while that of the laboratory equipment comes to Rs.23.51 crores.


Library


The College Library is very spacious having a plinth area of nearly 22,000 square feet and is acclaimed as one of the biggest in the State and is equipped with CD ROMS, Video Cassettes etc.

The Digital Library equipped with 26 computers is offering free Internet facility to all the students in addition to providing the access to the “DELNET” and online international Journals.

Library is kept open from 7.00 AM to 8.00 PM from Monday to Saturday. The Video Library is also equipped with 34” Colour TV, DVD & VCD players to play the Video Lessons procured from various reputed organizations.

The College Library is stocked with 51,668 books and 1238 back volumes of periodicals. At present 141 printed technical journals (including 56 foreign ones) and 292 online Journals including 130 foreign journals, besides almost all the important magazines and news papers, are subscribed for to cater adequately to the requirements of the students and the staff. The Book bank with about 14,707 volumes is of especial value to students belonging to the weaker sections of the society.


Virtual Classrooms & E-Classrooms


The college is the first Educational Institute in India to adopt Cisco Digital Media System (DMS) to extend the classroom environment and create anywhere, anytime learning experiences. The DMS solution includes Cisco Media Encoder 2000, Cisco Digital Media Mgr Base V4.0, Cisco Video Portal V4.0, Cisco Wide Area Application Engine 512, Cisco IP Conference station and Cisco License Call Manager 5.1. Cisco Digital Media System virtualizes the classroom environment with remote broadcast and viewing of lectures and on-demand materials. The college will stream live-sessions conducted by visiting professors and subject-matter experts to the techno-centered classrooms. Lectures can be viewed online in 15 virtual classrooms and 40 e-classrooms simultaneously.

The DMS solution permits simultaneous recording and archiving of the teaching sessions. This will help the students to access the sessions at their convenience from their hostel rooms as well. The archived sessions are presented to the students over Cisco Video Portal, a Web-based application that allows students to quickly browse, search and view digital media interactively.


Campus Placements


The Training & Placement Cell is committed to provide all possible assistance to the graduate and post-graduate students to secure employment in multi-national companies and other reputed organizations and industries.

The Training & Placement Cell extends its services round the year and facilitates to establish contacts between companies and students. This Cell helps the students to improve skills in related fields (soft skills, resume preparation, practice for interviews, etc) and career guidance. Frequently this cell conducts number of mock tests to improve the performance in written examinations. The aim is to ensure that students have the information and skills necessary for an effective job search.

Apart from handling the needs of the students, the office caters to the needs of the companies ranging from logistics to interview halls. Computer Center


Centrally Air-conditioned and with a plinth area of 12,600 sq.ft., the computer centre is equipped with Six HP servers of the state of the art Quad core technology and 130 Core2 Duo clients organized in Client/Server architecture using Cisco Manageable switches with AT & T structures cabling compliance.

The Hardware configuration of Servers is Quad core (Xeon 1.86 Ghz/4 GB ECC /4*146 GB SAS HDD with RAID 5) and are configured as a Windows 2003 File / Oracle Database Server, Mail Server, Internet Server, Linux Server and Novell Server. The configuration of the clients is latest Core2 duo 2.8 Ghz/4 GB DDR2/5000 GB SATA/1.44 FDD/24" Wide TFT LCD Monitor/DVD Writer/MS kbd & Mouse. The Application development software include Oracle, Rational Suite, Clemantine, Informatica, Visual Studio.net, Turbo C++ and MS Fortran 5 Etc.,

All the 130 clients are distributed among four laboratories, adjacent to each other under one roof, with see-through glass all around and exuding a subdued touch of majestic elegance and optimum utilization in every detail.

Eleven more Computer Centres with a total of 850 Machines are available to cater to the needs of individual departments including Hostel and Library. All the computer Centers of different departments. Hostel and Library are campus networked with Gigabit Fiber Optic Back bone.

A 10 Mbps leased line and 40Mbps Broadband Fiber Optic Internet connectivity from BSNL is available to access Internet, Digital Library and Video Conferencing.


Extra Curricular Activities


The College believes in adequate facilities being provided for the development, both of brain and brawn. Accordingly, spacious playgrounds and other amenities for diverse sports such as cricket, tennis, volley ball, basket ball, shuttle badminton etc., and athletics are made available on the campus. Under the auspices of the cultural and literary associations, various personality development programmes are conducted throughout the year.


Girls Hostel


The College has a campus hostel meant exclusively for girls. With a three storied building consisting of 87 rooms accommodating a maximum of 400 students, a spacious dining hall, T.V. & Audio Room, T.T. Room, Shuttle Badminton Court, standby generator, lush green lawns, flower gardens etc., not forgetting the near foolproof security arrangements, the hostel is considered a veritable home away from home by its inmates. A Computer Centre was established exclusively for the inmates of the hostel with free internet facility and is networked to the main Computer Centre of the College. Accommodation for girl students is also provided in the girls hostel located in Bapatla College of Arts & Science campus run by the same Management.


Other Facilities


A subsidized College Canteen with requisite hygienic standards, a fleet of eleven College buses for transportation and two noiseless diesel generators rated 250 KVA and 82.5 KVA ensuring uninterrupted power supply to vital sectors like the Computer Centre are but a few of the several amenities and facilities of inestimable value available to the staff and the students. A mineral water plant of 1,000 liters per hour capacity is available in the Campus to supply mineral water to all the Depts. And Hostel.The College Guest-House comprises fifteen well furnished AC suites and a spacious foyer for distinguished guest faculty. The College Canteen is extended recently to have two spacious dining halls and a modern kitchen.
